Shaping the future of personalized medical devices, inside the human body

Spheric Bio is an early preclinical stage medical device company spinning out of MIT and Harvard that is developing a platform to create personalized medical implants directly inside the human body. Their initial focus is on left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) for stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation. Spheric is pioneering a new approach to medical device design and delivery, moving beyond ‘one-size-fits-all’ solutions to create truly patient-specific implants within the human body.

Connor Verheyen talks about Spheric Bio, a company developing a 3D heart implant to help prevent strokes at IdeaStream 2025.

Trans-catheter deployment of soft, patient-specific implants

This team is developing technology to build customized, soft implants at target sites in the body, such as the heart, that would enable optimal treatment outcomes.
