Deshpande Center spinout, QD Vision, has launched a new display technology that increases the color spectrum of TVs, monitors, and LCD televisions by over 50%, giving them more lifelike and brilliant colors. The technology is based on quantum dot research at MIT which was supported by the Deshpande Center. QD Vision spun out of MIT in 2005. At the Consumer Electronics Show in January, Sony showed a TV using QD Vision's new display technology.
Deshpande Center spinouts, Arch Therapeutics and ImmuneXcite, were each awarded $1 milion Accelerator loans by the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center. These are highly competitive loans and show the strong recognition by the MLSC reviewers of the potential impact of these new technologies. Arch Therapeutics is developing a hemostasis product and ImmuneXcite a cancer therapy.
Deshpande Center recognized in PCAST report. On Friday, November 30, 2012, the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology released their report, "Transformation and Opportunity: The Future of the U.S. Research Enterprise".
The Deshpande Center is highlighted prominently on page 45 as an example of a "proof-of-concept center" within American Research Universities that are considered "central hubs of the innovation ecosystem".
