Gene Achter
Gene Achter has a broad technical background. He functions as both a creative technical contributor (32 patents, under Eugene K. Achter) and a generalist who can bridge the gaps between the disciplines and help a multidisciplinary team forge a common understanding.
He has worked extensively in instrumentation development for a variety of applications, including clinical diagnostics (critical care, immunoassay, hemostasis), security detection (explosives, narcotics), and product quality and safety. After working as a research scientist and project manager at Baxter, Aerospace Corp, Nova Biomedical, and Thermo Electron, he co-founded the startup True Technology, which developed and manufactured specialized test equipment for the medical device industry. Most recently, he was Vice President of Advanced Development and Technology and CTO at Instrumentation Laboratory.
His training includes a bachelor’s in chemistry from Brown, a PhD in chemical physics from the University of Chicago, and postdoctoral work in physical biochemistry at the National Institutes of Health. He volunteers as a Catalyst for the MIT Deshpande Center and as a mentor for MIT Venture Mentoring Service.
